The Mixtape, as it was commonly referred to, was recorded in 3 weeks. A collection of high school songs that underwent fresh production became a compilation. It set the stage for long distribution cycle and a wake up call to the local scene.  The album was symbolic of the Bossalaus beginnings and the formation of the Lotus production team.  Crews combined, rap names changed, the scene responded; No Samples Cleared changed the way Tri-Cities hip-hop was perceived and improved the overall execution of music marketing throughout the area. Though it was locally influential, the disc was more important to the procurement of what was happening within the Lotus camp: Vonell would successfully distribute 3 of his own albums, J-Factor would self produce nearly 6, and Sebastian Select delivered 2 strong releases while producing thousands of beats for rappers inside and outside of the movement. On the heels of this mixtape was the experimental hip-hop album, Bossalaus: The Mark of the Lotus, a collaborative effort by the newly assembled Lotus, produced by Grizzy Rockstar, Sebastian Select and Bevon the Muse.

Interesting Facts:

  • Long before joining Bossalaus, a young Wero was present at the album launch party,  inspired and driven to be rewarded years later by meeting Sebastian Select and forming the 509 Wreckerz faction.
  • oldmixtapeThe Mixtape’s first cover featured this sexy silver woman. Despite her disappearance, the album distributed itself admirably. As a followup to the ’97 EP Get Down, this album was a flagship declaration of where Lotus was headed.
  • Vonell’s rap name was Hazard 1, Bevon’s rap name was Xavier.
  • The original “LM” logo stands for “Lotus Music” and was the team’s disk jockey business identification.
